Bond News August 2012
LakeVille Community Schools has entered into an agreement with Davison Community Schools to use Collins Field as our “Home” field for Varsity and Junior Varsity football games for the fall of 2012. This decision was made by our Board after exploring all viable options and with input from our football coaches, band director, youth football volunteers, and our athletic and music booster groups. Youth football and Middle School games will be played on our field.
We first looked at renting bleachers and discovered that was not really a good option. The cost for the least expensive bleachers we could get is $8,000 for 250 seats. We need three times that number of seats. We cannot use the press box that sits on top of the unsafe bleachers. Our varsity football coach and band director believe the press box is critical to their ability to perform and run the football program. Middle School and Youth will use small bleachers possibly from the soccer fields in Columbiaville that will have to be transported back and forth.
We could have played all games as away games. Everyone involved in our meetings felt using Davison's field allowed us to have a home of our own and to keep the community pride and involvement that was fostered during the bond campaign alive and moving forward.
We will be able to hang our banners on the field and our booster groups are working on a plan to create tailgates before each varsity game and a caravan to games. We are also working on some ideas for doing something special for our seniors who are most impacted by the current situation.
Can we show our surrounding communities that we continue to work together for our students? Can we get more people to our games than ever before? Can we make an eight mile caravan to our games in Davison? We can. We are in transition this year and have a great new stadium to look forward to next year. Our community has worked together to get this bond passed and we can work together to make this year really special and a year to remember.
So you have a bit of context about the bond process - we will pass a resolution authorizing the sale of bonds August 28th. Bonds will be sold later this fall. We will not have any proceeds from the bond sale until December.
We are starting design work right away, and it is important that we take the time to design and complete all projects effectively. Our community expects us to use money wisely. The design of each project impacts others, for instance, the bleachers, (something as simple as how wide the walkway is) impacts the placement of the track so the bleacher design has to be part of the entire project so this takes time and cannot be completed instantly. Though it is disappointing that we will not play on our home field this fall, construction on the stadium will start early in the spring and we will have an amazing stadium in the fall of 2013. Watch our website for updates. Project schedules will be posted soon.
